Bridging the Digital Divide
At JLES Group, we believe in making a difference not only through our work in construction and civil engineering but also by contributing to the communities we serve. We recently partnered with Community Computers; a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to bridging the digital divide across Greater Manchester.
This meant we were able to donate state-of-the-art IT equipment to Lostock School and Community Library, supporting their mission to tackle the digital divide and empower under-resourced members of the community.
This meaningful contribution included six desktop computers, which will replace the library’s outdated equipment and provide critical access to technology for children, parents, and teachers striving to create better opportunities for themselves and others.
Seeing the Impact Firsthand
JLES Group’s Natasha joined representatives from Community Computers and Trafford Council at Lostock Library to see the impact of this initiative. It was an emotional day, offering a firsthand look at the challenges faced by those on the frontline of the digital divide.
“For many of us, access to reliable technology is something we take for granted. But for these children, parents, and teachers, having the right tools can be life-changing,” said Natasha. “It’s inspiring to see their resilience and determination despite the challenges they face daily.”
Lostock Library is more than just a space for books and learning; it is a lifeline for many community members in Trafford. By providing access to technology, the library is helping bridge gaps in education and opportunity, ensuring that those most at risk of being left behind can find a path forward.
A Shared Commitment to Community Empowerment
This donation was facilitated by Community Computers, a social enterprise dedicated to reducing waste and promoting digital inclusion by repurposing old IT equipment. Together with Trafford Council, they are enabling businesses like JLES to make a tangible difference in local communities.
“We’re thrilled to see our old IT equipment given a second life in such a meaningful way,” Natasha added. “It’s an honour to play a small part in creating opportunities for those who need them most.”
Join the Movement
The visit to Lostock Library reinforced the importance of collective efforts to tackle inequality and promote digital access. We encourage other businesses to consider partnering with initiatives like Community Computers, which provide a valuable link between corporate resources and community needs.
As a company, JLES remains committed to sustainability, reducing waste, and supporting local communities. By donating our old IT equipment, we’re not just reducing landfill waste; we’re contributing to a brighter, more equitable future for the people of Trafford.
The challenges faced by underprivileged community members at Lostock Library were a stark reminder of why these initiatives matter. While we celebrate the impact of this donation, we know there is much more to be done. JLES Group is dedicated to continuing our efforts to make a difference, one step at a time.
